Superfood: So Sweet

Sweet potatoes - rich in carbohydrate, fibre and potassium, and one of the best sources of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an antioxidant powerhouse, and is linked to anti-aging benefits, cancer prevention and the maintenance of good eyesight. Their potassium content is helpful for the heart as it lowers blood pressure by maintaining fluid balance, and is an important electrolyte that helps regulate the heartbeat.

Although the sweetest of potatoes, they have a low G.I.(glycaemic index), meaning they release sugars slowly into the bloodstream, unlike many other starchy foods that elevate blood sugar rapidly after consumption. The slow release of sugars means you won't get blood-sugar spikes, but you will get a steady release of energy.

This powerhouse of nutrition is also a good source of dietary fibre which helps the body maintain a healthy digestive tract and regulates digestion.
